Better than expected!

I was a little dubious about this hotel after seeing photos of it on the hotel's website. However I didn't have much choice as my boyfriend was staying here for work and I was tagging along. My expectations were exceeded - the room was great, everything you needed and everything cleverly had it's own place. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Best of all was the service - the staff were very friendly, very helpful and very welcoming.

OK, but not the best location

Stayed 3 nights at the CitizenM in central Amsterdam, and central is what this hotel is NOT, at least if your travel is about getting to central Amsterdam. Its a 25 minute ride by tram to the Central Station, 10 to the museum area and 15 to entertainment area Leidseplain. Set in pretty dull location, the benefit is that its quiet.

true value for money. Simple yet elegant

Except for a small stain on the bed, everything was spotlessly clean. All equipment were functional. Design simplicity and practicality were wonderful. Room temperature and venicial blind positions were just as I had requested. Staff very curteous.

A Quirky Modern Hotel with Plenty of Character

We found this hotel in The Sunday Times' travel section as it was voted one of the top 10 boutique hotels in Europe and we were not disappointed. We accidentally took the wrong train from the airport (our stupid fault!) and ended up at the central station in Amsterdam. From there we took the tram to the hotel which took approximately 15 minutes. The tram stops right outside the hotel which was very convenient.

Cool and modern place few steps from the airport building

Spent a night in a cozy and special deisigned room with runaway view. Only problem I had was with remote control ( please wait .. endless) controling just everything in room so needed a quick assistance and got it even it was late evening.

you or better...you and your partner will love it!!!

Just like in the pictures...or even better!!!Romantic, comfortable, with free internet access in the lobby...like a heaven in the cold city of Amsterdam!!!However, since there is always a but: Don't go there if you are not feeling comfortable with your partner (the curtain in the bathroom does almost nothing), ...

Quirky, clean and great value.

Stayed here for two nights on business in the nearby World Trade Centre building. Recommended to me by a colleague, this hotel is certainly very different to the run of the mill Holiday Inns and Novotels I'd usually select. Think of a Japanese-style pod / capsule hotel and you'll not be million miles off in terms of what to expect - except you get a window and a very high tech shower and lighting system!

Not sure this concept is for me

Yes, the bed is great. Yes, they play up some of the things travelers really appreciate, omit many outdated ones. But. I really don't fancy opening the door to my hotel room only to be greeted by a toilet and a shower cabin.

a hotel for the 21st century - great fun, top value

Like other reviewers - wish I'd been able to stay longer. Loved the room. And the facilities. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Recommended

Perfect backpacker's choice

I stayed together with my girlfriend, and we loved the place. The concept is cool and the decoration is outstanding. This place is perfect if you would like to stay in a non-conventional hotel or if you are a backpacker but hate hostels. This place has the charm of a hostel without being one.

Very pleasant, modern and affordable hotel

I really like the concept of citizenM hotel: a small but luxury room, canteenM for a quick snack or drink, and several lounges. Free internet, and very nice personel. I would really recommend this hotel!

Cute concept, sub-Standard execution

I read the many positive reviews and decided to give it a try for one night before a morning flight out of Schipol. The rate was around 70 EUR / US$100, which was a little less than the Hilton or Sheraton also at the airport, where I normally stay at Schipol.

AMAZING HOTEL - WISH I'D HAD LONGER TO STAY AND ENJOY THE ROOM

Just back from a three day business trip to The Netherlands.  My colleage and I stayed in the Citizen M hotel last night.  It is an extremley trendy hotel - very relaxing - for the rate we paid - it was an absolute steal. Highly recommend it to any sort of traveller. Handy for the airport - a mere 10 min stroll had us in the terminal.

Contemporary bliss

Actually my review is for the Citizen M hotel at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. I have not stayed at the one in central Amsterdam but just read a review on this hotel on Trip Advisor. The guest described the staff as "similar to Macdonalds". This is so contrary to my experience at Schipol Citizen M that I can hardly believe it.

Experience could have been better

Was attracted by location, rate and uniqueness. They all satisfied. Very very convenient for airport departure/arrival. Rate was half that of nearby hotels. Uniqueness was disappointing. May be me but - did not like toilet, washbasin and shower to share my room, OK opaque doors and a flimsy curtain can hide them, but then you have a box room 80% occupied by one massive bed with two fixed tables and lamps that are no good for working on (if on business).

Cool. Worth visiting in its own right.

CitizenM is a new type of hotel experience. Larger than the "cocoon" at Charles DeGaulle airport, CitizenM is still refined and sleek, with no wasted space. The bed was comfortable. The shower worked fine. So did the toilet, as long as you can settle for a frosted glass circular tube being the only thing between you and your roommate. The very modern sitting and meeting spaces in the lobby make up for the absence of an easy chair in the room.

Great location

My second stay, fancy hotel, perfectly clean, great location - easy for plane travel, rent a car. Even if you wanna go to central Amsterdam, train station just around the corner.

Amazing! Citizenm city!

This was by far one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in! Everything was perfect, free wifi, use of computers, right beside the tram line 5 stop. It was a 5 min walk to the WTc train station! The room was gorgeous so clean and modern, and my boyfriend loved the moodpad! The staff were 100% and so helpful! Def will be staying in the citizenm again... Thumbs up!

Great place to stay for rest the night before transatlantic flights

From the check-in to check-out this was a great experience. Although at first I was concerned that the rooms might have been a little like a cruise ship, I instantly found the large bed and well thought-out unique layout of the room to be very comfortable.

In a nutshell ... AWESOME concept - rubbish staff !

I am not going to write much about the hotel or the rooms - it is just a fantastic. Other reviews go into details about the HUGE comfortable bed, gadgets, rain shower ... and strange toilet arrangements ... I was with my sister and we really didnt care about this - infact we had a really good laugh!! I travelled with my sister for a 3 night 'budget airline' break during half term. The room was 55 Euros a night - a breath of fresh air in a very expensive city.

Fantastic funky hotel - a breath of fresh air!

This hotel introduces a whole new concept to the idea of a hotel stay, and is a highly-recommended must-visit. Everything from the check-in (a really simple do-it-yourself job at computer terminals) to the rooms (funky shower and WC pods, and huge bed) and communal area (free wi-fi computer terminals) was different from the norm.

Lovely

I cannot give enough praise for this hotel. Every bit of my stay was perfect. It was hip, funky, friendly and comfortable. I will stay here again next time I'm in the city.

--- signorinaangelina: 08-Jan-2010
Wasn't as awe struck this time and did see faults. Rating between 3.5 - 4.

Have stayed before in the summer and still really liked this hotel the second time round. Close and cheap access to the city, all gadgets (if your into that) and on this occasion far cheaper new years eve accomodation than anywhere else (including the dirtiest of hostels in the city... excellent value).

Uber Modern and very friendly

We travelled to Amsterdam for New Years Eve and stayed one night at the Citizen M hotel. The Hotel is about 20 mins train/drive away from Airport and the Centre. The best way to get around is on tram which is a couple of euro. We arrived around 10.30am after an early morning flight. The hotel has a self check in service, which is fantastic and really easy to use.

Top Hotel Xrated!

I have just returned from my 4 night stay at the CitizenM hotel in Amsterdam, you can't go wrong if you stay here. Me and my boyfriend chose this hotel because we wanted something a little different, so after seeing all the pictures and reading the reviews we knew we had made a good choice. The location is perfect if you don't want to stay right in the city centre, the number 5 tram is so frequent and a 1 minute walk from the hotel.

A Great Place For A City Break/New Years Eve

A train here from Amsterdam airport costs a few Euros and is within walking distance from the hotel. Situated near to the Museum district, the tram stop is just around the corner. The city centre is just 20 min away. Room really does bring affordable luxury. I was here at the same time as the person who left a poor review. We had one cool shower during our 3 night stay for New Years Eve. Technology in room was fine too.

A very good start for a vacation from Schiphol

Instead rushing to the airport the morning of the flight, we made the choice to stay at a hotel near or at the airport-schiphol. The CitizenM was the right choice, i.e. from price and the service point of view. Although this was for us also a new hotel experience, e.g. the checking, the room and the whole setting, we would do this again next time. The service in the hotel was very good and the the atmosphere was very relaxed. Perhaps not a hotel for every body, but we liked it.

An unpleasant stay

The technology exists, but doesn't really work. From arrival my room was plagued by problems, requiring the staff to reboot the system several times. Television wouldn't work, then window controls, temperatures plummet, lights would go on and off at will. The room temperature would drop considerably, especially at night, but nothing could be done since the staff informed me the room sensors indicated the room was warm despite the cold wind blowing across the bed.

A great place to stay. Funky, unique and quiet.

Just returned from a fab New Year break to Amsterdam. We loved the hotel and personally would stay there again. We had no prblems at all. Yes the rooms are compact but when you book you are well aware of this!! ( lady from Germany!). The pods are a great idea and my husband loved the gadgets to control the lights, mood etc. The bed is huge and fantastic, we had 3 great nights sleep.

You'll love it or hate it

The CitizenM concept works well for an airport hotel, where you only stay for 1 night and don't unpack your bags. It works less well as a city hotel though. The Amsterdam city CitizenM is far from the centre (though with good transport links), rooms are tiny and with no wardrobe for clothes, no tea or coffee in the room, and breakfast is a joke. It's not for older people or for children, but if you are a young trendy single person or couple, and not staying too long, you could love it.

CitizinM Amsterdam City

Boutique style hotel. Don't be bothered with formal check-in and so on. friendly assistance for e-checkin. Great room, with shower en toilet quit centrally, but nicely hidden when needed. Nice Kingsize bed with crisp linnen. Will come back when in Amsterdam.

Try it - its interesting at worst and fantastic at best.

So, I read the reviews, added up all the feedback and we made a booking. Had two nights there: Good: Clean, very friendly, great beds, interesting lighting, FREE in room porn and movies and great wireless internet. Bad: Nothing. Will stay here again and will seek these out wherever I travel. Give it a try, and once you get over the C21 concept, its a refreshing change. Recommended!
