change mood
In a few words: style, sophistication, futurism, practicality, no BS. All things a contemporary, young, technology oriented, novelty embracing person needs, put together in a compact package.
I entered a hot and humid room. I tried for ten minutes to operate the mood pad, no luck. I have to call "an ambassador". I dial 0; wrong. I dial 9; wrong. I desperately look for instructions. I find a sheet of paper that recommends that I dial 001. The "ambassador" suggests that I turn the mood pad off and then on again.
This is an amazing hotel. The staff bent over backwards to respond to our requests. The hotel is a state of the art high tech establishment that has cool modern rooms. I acknowledge that I am old and my definition of cool may not be everyone's definition of cool but, these rooms were cool.
Second stay at CitizenM. Things to love: the bed and especially the sheets. The view of the planes and runways is also great fun, and the good network connection a plus. Things that could be improved: you can't pull up the horizontal blinds, which ruins the view.
I didn't expect an airport hotel to be so futuristic, clean and offer so much for the money they charge. It's all "modern style", stainless still with amenities that take your breath away. It took my wife some reading to figure out how to turn the shower on and the toilet - you feel like you'll end up on Mars when you get out.
Amazing hotel. Lovely design (vitra). Free international calls!!!!!! Free WIFI, free films on demand. Superb bed (extra large). Don't stay in one room with somebody you are shy of - cos you are visible when you take a shower and use a toilet ;)
Strange: you pay for hotel in advance. Very expensive: food in hotel cantin.
I love the Citizen M, a friend introduced me to it last year and I've been three times since. It makes the transition to travel so luxurious and there you are right next to the airport in the morning. On the first trip we nipped into Amsterdam at night, very accessible, and now there is another one in Amsterdam itself (need to try that too).
It's the second best hotel in my view.I came to Amsterdam for a trip withmy gf. We both were very happy.I stayed here on the second day of the opening of the hotel. Got a very warm welcome. Gadgets kept me occpied and it's not value for money, it's EXTRA VALUE FOR MONEY AND COMFORT is amazing.
I think this hotel is great! Very modern and clean, although the mood pad was more a gimmick than anything. The staff was young energetic people, extremely helpful and sweet (dug out an umbrella for us from housekeeping when it rained outside, lent us an adaptor for our ipod, switched room for us promptly, etc).
For the price it is so hard to believe it would be this impressive but its true! The only problem I see with this hotel is there are not more CitizenM hotels already! We both enjoyed the stay so much it would influence where to go on our next city break!!!
What a fantastic place! Room was great, decor in hotel was wonderfully different. We were a bit concerned that it seemed to be a long way from city centre, but this proved an advantage. Train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Suid station was easier than to Central station, . . .
...onto what looked like a row of lockers.
After recovering from the intial shock of the Georgian ambience (George Orwell, George Jetson, George Lucas), I found the room to be completely practical and efficient. The bed was, indeed, humongous and very comfortable, and I enjoyed playing with the environment control pad once I figured out how to use it.
We stayed in the CitizenM for one night because we had a early flight from schiphol to US. We really recommend this hotel to others. The rooms are small but very luxurious.
First point I have to make is this: Not once did we hear a plane during the entire stay. It was actually quite bizzare! We started to question whether there were any flights at all landing or taking off from the airport!
If you have to catch a plane early at Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol), consider staying there the night before. This is possible at a very reasonable price at the CitizenM Hotel. Trendy designed, efficiently decorated rooms, which will surprise you with a lot of comfort and modern technology. A hotel you didn't experience before. The next morning it's only a 5 minutes walk to the Departure area at the airport.
Okay, I LOVE the concept...but after a Greek holiday on Naxos...this had to be the worst way to transition back to "reality". Locked in the room, enclosed in a cylinder, computer generated EVERYTHING...all I wanted to do was hop a flight back to Greece. GREAT concept, incredible location but not for this kid. All I want is a donkey braying at 5 in the morning, a rooster crowing when he is not supposed to, a MYTHOS please.
The hotel location can at first be a put off as it is outside the city, however this was a great advantage for us as we came by car and could park at a close by parking (only 6 euro overnight and they give you in exchange tickets for public transport or bikes to use).
We stayed at Citizen M the night before a flight out of Amsterdam's Schipol Airport. Citizen M is perhaps the most innovative hotel I have every stayed in. The innovation extends to everything from room design to service to amenities -- it's very different, and it's not for everyone. However if you appreciate a creative approach and don't mind a very small room, this is the place for you.
Great value and fun for a one night stay. Maybe not for those who don't care about technology but we loved it. Very innovative and it felt more like a club than a hotel. If not happy with the restaurant facilities you can always eat at the airport or railway complex or at other hotels in the area.
small but clean and very comfortable! The gadgets are great, as is the shower. Feels like a soft rain. We will be back. If you arrive at night at the airport, walk to the parking, take the elavator to the ground floor, cross the street and you are at the hotel. At night the doors at Schiphol Plaza are closed.
Such a wildly refreshing new concept - best hotel innovation in decades! If you think this concept only appeals to a certain class of budget traveller then you are mistaken - the lobby during checkout was as busy with the "suited and booted" as with the "jeans and t-shirts". Classy, excellent condition, surprisingly large. Great meeting spaces, high-speed internet is what it says "high-speed"....what a nice change that is!
As a regular visitor to Holland and having stayed at rival hotels nearby, I cannot begin to explain how happy I am that Citizen M is a hotel that provides all the services and commodities that the others are lacking and at a cheaper rate.
if you think about it... it's just what you want in a hotel; Comfortable bed, good shower, that it's clean. check times three! It's a very nice hotel, small but good rooms, great staff, nice price. We'll be back in the future. thats's why we recommend (aanraden) it.
We stayed 2 nights in early June at this new concept hotel. We managed to get a nice discount price (80 euros/night) from the hotel's own website.
Stayed 14 July, and will happily re-book. Checked in and found that I had a ground floor room so asked for one on top floor overlooking the airport. "No problem" said Robert and he got me what I wanted. Room was very clean and very functional. Could have done with more closet space, but not really a big deal.
Stayed there for the second time; first time I had to get used to a few things, but second time enjoyed even more. This time I spent a couple of hours on the ground floor, where you can take a special bite with a drink, and look for a cosy place in one of the lounges to read a book (being alone).
Very convenient for early departures or late arrivals at airport. Covered walkway connected to airport. Easy walk even with lots of luggage. You can just roll luggage cart from airport. Small room, but very clean and very technology creative-makes the space unusual and fun.
If you stay at the Citizen M for the novelty, then you will probably be amused. But if you stay here hoping to do a little work, forget it. Don't stay here if you need and expect a few basics like a desk OR a table in the room.
Although we were very excited finding this hotel we had too many problems in our 6 nights staying there. From where to begin?
1) First entry in the room and the cover of the blanket had stains. I saw o maid outside the room and she told she would change it. 4 hours later nothing happened so i had to go to the reception desk for complains.
In early Oct 2009 my mother and I stayed at another hotel close to Schipol. When we arrived at Schiphol we were too late for the airport shuttle bus. The taxi was more that the cost of the room we had. At that time I did not know about the Citizen M. I found the Citizen M when I googled it in Nov 2009. On the 30th Nov we stayed at the Citizen M. What a contrast to a traditional hotel and what a delight!!
Positives: Very good location for early/late flights. Very good price especially for a couple. Very fast and easy in and out. Friendly but not annoyingly-overfriendly staff. Negatives: After a year some rooms show signs of wearing down already, e.g. difficult to move toilet/shower door, dripping shower, moodpad battery loses power and/or connection very fast. Not really a big negative, though.
Super King size bed in the room is so comfortable. There's moonpad could control everything in the room, very chic and very convenient. I can just lie on the bed and control everything. Good for lazy bone.
I had already booked to stay in another hotel, my partner came across this one and we changed our booking, and I very much concede that his choice was fantastic. The concept of this room alone was actually the highlight of our trip.
When i was told this hotel was made from recycled cargo containers, i had to try it. And to my surprise it was the science fiction hotel i had been waiting for all these years. the only thing missing is the parking lot for my flying car!!
Staying here was a unique experience, with very friendly and helpful staff and clean, modern rooms. The bed and pillows were wonderful and it was impossible not to have a lie in. The canteen had lovely fresh food and no more expensive than other options in the city.
This hotel is not for everyone. It is located outside the main Amsterdam areas, but with the rail station within walking distance and the tram stop just up the street, it was convenient enough for my stay.
Cool and modern hotel with small but comfortable rooms. Hotel employees was kind and efficient and they quickly provide for some little problems (room phone that doesn't work, for example). A bus stop is near and you can reach the city centre in 10 minutes. There is a wi-fi access in all rooms and a Mac internet point in the hall.
An excellent choice! Not far from the airport, just a few steps walk from the metro, Zuid Station and Tram and Bus stops, easy to reach, easy to travel to city center. Faboulous (although small) rooms, a perfect concept, absolutely great design . Easy to check in and out. Once in a lifetime experience! Excellent choice for young travelers (although I'm already 40!)
Need to spend a night around Schiphol and thank God I have chosen the right hotel. From others' review, I could not imagine the nice things described in many reviews until I stepped in the room.

This hotel has lots of pros: Good location near the airport, nice views (if you like airports) and a good prize ! The rooms are kind of small though, but the smart design en all the tech stuff makes up for that. There are lot of television channels, and free movies. The service was good enough for me. I certainly recommend this hotel.
