My second stay, fancy hotel, perfectly clean, great location - easy for plane travel, rent a car. Even if you wanna go to central Amsterdam, train station just around the corner.
Was attracted by location, rate and uniqueness. They all satisfied. Very very convenient for airport departure/arrival. Rate was half that of nearby hotels. Uniqueness was disappointing. May be me but - did not like toilet, washbasin and shower to share my room, OK opaque doors and a flimsy curtain can hide them, but then you have a box room 80% occupied by one massive bed with two fixed tables and lamps that are no good for working on (if on business).
CitizenM is a new type of hotel experience. Larger than the "cocoon" at Charles DeGaulle airport, CitizenM is still refined and sleek, with no wasted space. The bed was comfortable. The shower worked fine. So did the toilet, as long as you can settle for a frosted glass circular tube being the only thing between you and your roommate. The very modern sitting and meeting spaces in the lobby make up for the absence of an easy chair in the room.
I read the many positive reviews and decided to give it a try for one night before a morning flight out of Schipol. The rate was around 70 EUR / US$100, which was a little less than the Hilton or Sheraton also at the airport, where I normally stay at Schipol.
Just back from a three day business trip to The Netherlands. My colleage and I stayed in the Citizen M hotel last night. It is an extremley trendy hotel - very relaxing - for the rate we paid - it was an absolute steal. Highly recommend it to any sort of traveller. Handy for the airport - a mere 10 min stroll had us in the terminal.
Like other reviewers - wish I'd been able to stay longer. Loved the room. And the facilities. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Recommended
Yes, the bed is great. Yes, they play up some of the things travelers really appreciate, omit many outdated ones. But. I really don't fancy opening the door to my hotel room only to be greeted by a toilet and a shower cabin.
Spent a night in a cozy and special deisigned room with runaway view. Only problem I had was with remote control ( please wait .. endless) controling just everything in room so needed a quick assistance and got it even it was late evening.
Except for a small stain on the bed, everything was spotlessly clean. All equipment were functional. Design simplicity and practicality were wonderful. Room temperature and venicial blind positions were just as I had requested. Staff very curteous.
If you need a hotel waiting for next day flight, this is your smartest option. Right next to (I mean 3 min walking distance only) the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol terminal buildings and train station. The terminal building double functions as a shopping centre, quick bites, and even has a supermarket.
I am not going to write much about the hotel or the rooms - it is just a fantastic. Other reviews go into details about the HUGE comfortable bed, gadgets, rain shower ... and strange toilet arrangements ... I was with my sister and we really didnt care about this - infact we had a really good laugh!! I travelled with my sister for a 3 night 'budget airline' break during half term. The room was 55 Euros a night - a breath of fresh air in a very expensive city.
This was by far one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in! Everything was perfect, free wifi, use of computers, right beside the tram line 5 stop. It was a 5 min walk to the WTc train station! The room was gorgeous so clean and modern, and my boyfriend loved the moodpad! The staff were 100% and so helpful! Def will be staying in the citizenm again... Thumbs up!
Actually my review is for the Citizen M hotel at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. I have not stayed at the one in central Amsterdam but just read a review on this hotel on Trip Advisor. The guest described the staff as "similar to Macdonalds". This is so contrary to my experience at Schipol Citizen M that I can hardly believe it.
I stayed together with my girlfriend, and we loved the place. The concept is cool and the decoration is outstanding. This place is perfect if you would like to stay in a non-conventional hotel or if you are a backpacker but hate hostels. This place has the charm of a hostel without being one.
I really like the concept of citizenM hotel: a small but luxury room, canteenM for a quick snack or drink, and several lounges. Free internet, and very nice personel. I would really recommend this hotel!
Just like in the pictures...or even better!!!Romantic, comfortable, with free internet access in the lobby...like a heaven in the cold city of Amsterdam!!!However, since there is always a but: Don't go there if you are not feeling comfortable with your partner (the curtain in the bathroom does almost nothing), ...
Stayed here for two nights on business in the nearby World Trade Centre building. Recommended to me by a colleague, this hotel is certainly very different to the run of the mill Holiday Inns and Novotels I'd usually select. Think of a Japanese-style pod / capsule hotel and you'll not be million miles off in terms of what to expect - except you get a window and a very high tech shower and lighting system!
We found this hotel in The Sunday Times' travel section as it was voted one of the top 10 boutique hotels in Europe and we were not disappointed. We accidentally took the wrong train from the airport (our stupid fault!) and ended up at the central station in Amsterdam. From there we took the tram to the hotel which took approximately 15 minutes. The tram stops right outside the hotel which was very convenient.
Stayed 3 nights at the CitizenM in central Amsterdam, and central is what this hotel is NOT, at least if your travel is about getting to central Amsterdam. Its a 25 minute ride by tram to the Central Station, 10 to the museum area and 15 to entertainment area Leidseplain. Set in pretty dull location, the benefit is that its quiet.
I was a little dubious about this hotel after seeing photos of it on the hotel's website. However I didn't have much choice as my boyfriend was staying here for work and I was tagging along. My expectations were exceeded - the room was great, everything you needed and everything cleverly had it's own place. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Best of all was the service - the staff were very friendly, very helpful and very welcoming.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. Tiny room is extremely comfortable and stylish. Check in check out is a breeze. The whole hotel is very practical, clean, chick. Makes you feel great. It takes sometime to travel to downtown but there are several traveling options. Train (fastest), metro and tram (closest).
Instead rushing to the airport the morning of the flight, we made the choice to stay at a hotel near or at the airport-schiphol. The CitizenM was the right choice, i.e. from price and the service point of view. Although this was for us also a new hotel experience, e.g. the checking, the room and the whole setting, we would do this again next time. The service in the hotel was very good and the the atmosphere was very relaxed. Perhaps not a hotel for every body, but we liked it.
Have stayed before in the summer and still really liked this hotel the second time round. Close and cheap access to the city, all gadgets (if your into that) and on this occasion far cheaper new years eve accomodation than anywhere else (including the dirtiest of hostels in the city... excellent value).
The technology exists, but doesn't really work. From arrival my room was plagued by problems, requiring the staff to reboot the system several times. Television wouldn't work, then window controls, temperatures plummet, lights would go on and off at will. The room temperature would drop considerably, especially at night, but nothing could be done since the staff informed me the room sensors indicated the room was warm despite the cold wind blowing across the bed.
Just returned from a fab New Year break to Amsterdam. We loved the hotel and personally would stay there again. We had no prblems at all. Yes the rooms are compact but when you book you are well aware of this!! ( lady from Germany!). The pods are a great idea and my husband loved the gadgets to control the lights, mood etc. The bed is huge and fantastic, we had 3 great nights sleep.
The CitizenM concept works well for an airport hotel, where you only stay for 1 night and don't unpack your bags. It works less well as a city hotel though. The Amsterdam city CitizenM is far from the centre (though with good transport links), rooms are tiny and with no wardrobe for clothes, no tea or coffee in the room, and breakfast is a joke. It's not for older people or for children, but if you are a young trendy single person or couple, and not staying too long, you could love it.
We travelled to Amsterdam for New Years Eve and stayed one night at the Citizen M hotel. The Hotel is about 20 mins train/drive away from Airport and the Centre. The best way to get around is on tram which is a couple of euro. We arrived around 10.30am after an early morning flight. The hotel has a self check in service, which is fantastic and really easy to use.
I have just returned from my 4 night stay at the CitizenM hotel in Amsterdam, you can't go wrong if you stay here. Me and my boyfriend chose this hotel because we wanted something a little different, so after seeing all the pictures and reading the reviews we knew we had made a good choice. The location is perfect if you don't want to stay right in the city centre, the number 5 tram is so frequent and a 1 minute walk from the hotel.
A train here from Amsterdam airport costs a few Euros and is within walking distance from the hotel. Situated near to the Museum district, the tram stop is just around the corner. The city centre is just 20 min away. Room really does bring affordable luxury. I was here at the same time as the person who left a poor review. We had one cool shower during our 3 night stay for New Years Eve. Technology in room was fine too.
I cannot give enough praise for this hotel. Every bit of my stay was perfect. It was hip, funky, friendly and comfortable. I will stay here again next time I'm in the city.
This hotel introduces a whole new concept to the idea of a hotel stay, and is a highly-recommended must-visit. Everything from the check-in (a really simple do-it-yourself job at computer terminals) to the rooms (funky shower and WC pods, and huge bed) and communal area (free wi-fi computer terminals) was different from the norm.

I stay here every two weeks and find it an extremely positive experience. The staff are excellent, welcoming, warm, friiendly and happy to help. The check in process takes minutes, as does check out making it a big time saver when travelling on business.
What a place indeed!! When we decided to visit Holland I was in a rather bad mood and nothing about this trip seemed to cheer me up. My husbad was maing really noticeable efforts to make me enthusiatic about it,but nothing worked. He then suggested visiting the website of our hotel in order to get an idea of our trip.
we arrived on a very snowy cold day, it was too cold to just leave our luggage and wander around for 4 hours before checkin time therefore we had to pay an early check-in fee of 20 euros, but to be out of the cold it was worth it. the room was great, lovely and spacious, the mood pad was a little technological but my partner took control.
I first stayed at the CitizenM at the end of September 2009 with two colleagues at the start of a 6 week assignment in Amsterdam. We kept coming back week after week. Later when my assigment was extended for a further 6 weeks, I kept coming back too.
We just returned from a four day trip to Amsterdam, where we stayed at the CitizenM Amsterdam City. The hotel is conveniently located at the tram station. You can easily reach the city center within 15 minutes. The hotel itself is very stylish and new, nevertheless this innovative hotel concept had several drawbacks. The room itself is rather compact with the toilet and shower within the room.
Boutique style hotel. Don't be bothered with formal check-in and so on. friendly assistance for e-checkin. Great room, with shower en toilet quit centrally, but nicely hidden when needed. Nice Kingsize bed with crisp linnen. Will come back when in Amsterdam.
I stayed here for one night after flying into Schiphol so I could be at the airport train station to catch an early train the next morning. The hotel was very convenient for this purpose, being only a few minutes walk from the airport.
Great hotel for those that have early flight. The hotel is located within 5 minutes walk from airport. The room is the ?coolest? type I?ve ever stayed. The mood pad controls everything that goes on in your room.
We loved this place, very clean, airport shops and restaurants 2 minutes walking away, great looking rooms, and the bed is the best we ever had in a hotel.
Right next to the main airport terminal and trains (would help if the hotel showed a walking map from the terminal though). Nightmare to locate on a satnav and very difficult to find the car park using the hotel staff directions.
We stayed a night in this hotel in December 2009 as we needed to catch a flight from the airport the next morning. It?s a nice hotel, at only a five minutes walk from the terminal. The rooms are a bit small but nicely decorated and with lots of gadgets and a good bed. Staff is friendly and you can use some Macs to get on the internet without charge.
A modern hotel, like coming from the future! Perfectly clean, amazing kingsize bed, reasonable price, friendly stuff...a great stay! Everything works electronicaly, we loved to play with the colours in the shower! The only problem i can think of, is tha lack of space when it comes to storing the luggage.
We looked for a hotel on or near schiphol airport due to predicted snow next day. The known hotels on the airport where about twice the price of this one. We booked and didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised.
So, I read the reviews, added up all the feedback and we made a booking. Had two nights there: Good: Clean, very friendly, great beds, interesting lighting, FREE in room porn and movies and great wireless internet. Bad: Nothing. Will stay here again and will seek these out wherever I travel. Give it a try, and once you get over the C21 concept, its a refreshing change. Recommended!
we had to stay 1 night in amsterdam to catch our next flight to lima on the next day and we were very impressed from the stylish and unique "future"hotel citizenM
starting with the check in which u can do on your own - he whole idea of citizenM(obile) is awesom.
It was our last night in Europe after five weeks of great times with my family and lot's of other fun things. With it's unconventional outlay this hotel helped us to get over the sadness of leaving. As soon as we opened the door to the room we had to laugh,we travelled a lot and never before did we have to pull our luggage over what seemed to be a little bridge between the toilet and the shower to the bed part of the room.
very cool airport hotel, super convenient, big bed, lights, features, fun! strange toilet and shower, modular in the room, we joked that it was an updated version of formula 1 hotels in france. well done, easy, definitely worth it for 1-night travel stay etc at airport.
This place is like experiencing an iPhone! Very slick, modern and few hassles. The room is very simple; however you can change the themes and lighting of the room with a touch of a button. Easy in and out. The food was a surprise; it is microwave food; however it was decent. Small desk; you may prefer to work in the lobby. Free internet. Great standard TV/movie selection without paying.
I love the citizen M at Schipol.. I use it whenever I travel to Holland as I normally arrive late at night and take an early train north in the morning. The check in and check out are very fast and efficient, with a staff member on hand to help the less tech savvy guests.
Simple fast and very predictable place to stay. especially if you want to have fast check in/ checkout fantastic sleep and 7 minutes to airport in the morning.
This review is long overdue. I stayed at CitizenM last month. The hotel is not only cool, hip and modern, it is also very convenient. It is almost attached to the airport. I checked into the hotel at 5:00 am. You self check yourself in. Very cool. I arrived to my room to find it fully automated. You can customize everything from air temp, to water temp. After sleeping on a very comfortable bed I showered and went downstairs to get some coffee and a bite.
A group of 10 of us stayed at the CitizenM Amsterdam City for a Fri & Sat night in Dec 09. We arrived around 9pm Fri evening and found the computerised check-in was very easy and there were staff readily available and offering to help. The staff member that helped us check in also looked up the street where our restaurant was booked and booked a taxi to collect us soon after our arrival. Throughout our stay we found the hotel staff in the lobby to be very helpful and efficient.
Perfect for design seekers, monocle readers, budget wise yet cosmopolitan people.
The rooms were very comfy. I travelled solo so it was very spacious. If sharing you would need to know the other person very well considering the pod setup of showers and toilet. I found the heating took a long time to make the room warm but I am sure in summer it would be fine. Fast, free internet access or easy to use hotel iMacs.

We loved Citizen M. The bed is unbelievably comfortable. The room is very tiny but so cleverly laid out it doesn't matter. A gadget geek's dream. Yes, the shower is completely transparent, so if you're sharing the room be prepared to get to know each other! Fabulous, friendly staff, good food downstairs - perfect if you're staying at the airport in preparation for a long flight or during a layover.
A inspiring & different hotel. Easily accesable if you travel to or from amterdam. Rooms are small but have just all you need in a different stile.
You can walk there from the airport terminal on a covered walkway. Staff at check in was very pleasant and had a good sense of humour. They were also kind enough to tell us we could check in two hours ahead of time (noon instead of 2 PM) at no extra charge.
My wife and me had to catch an early flight on Schiphol airport and decided to stay in the CitizenM hotel mainly because of its location. The hotel is only 5 minutes walking distance from the main terminal building. The concept of the hotel also perfectly suits its location. It offers relatively small rooms (it is in fact the size of a container) with a comfortable bed, a toilet, a shower and a television set with free movies.
Came into Amsterdam at 6:30 in the morning from Bahrain and had booked a room for two at the Citizen M Airport, as we did not want to drag our bags on trains and trams to get to a hotel in the city center. We were able to leave our bags locked up and went off into the city for the day. came back around 7 that night and the computer check in was very simple.
Very good location, 5 minutes walk from the Schipol Airport, easy to found, signs everywhere, plus u can take the luggage kart and leave it in front of the hotel. Roomy and elegant, clean and cozy, huge bed +confortable, lovely view , on a scale from 1 to 10 , I'll give it a 10.
We loved this hotel's location, design and features. However, customer service was horrible. It wasn't expensive, but it wasn't inexpensive, and for $125 USD per night for a tiny room, I would have expected more. When we arrived, we were promised a view room, only to be placed in a room with no view.
CitizenM was amazing! One of the trendiest, most comfortable places i've stayed! the bed was huge and SO comfortable it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning. the pods with shower and toliet were very interesting and surprisingly functional. the mood pad was fun - you could change the temperature, lights, tv, music , everything from one little device.
This hotel is expensive impersonal full of litle phrases from CitizenM which enrage you given that there is no charm, little service and lots of attempts to extract extra sums of money. When you check in if you are there an hour or so before 2 pm they ask you for 20 euros for early check in.
This place was amazing!! The bed was huge and really confortable, the room was clean and it was fun to take a shower and choose the color of the light atmosphere. I would have like to have a place to plug my ipod, because the musical choice was not that great, but it is my only concern.
perfect hotel,i dont know what to write also, just imagine what is perfect, and then feel something more then that imagination, thats CitizenM Amsterdam CityHotel
If u search for something fresh, modern, minimal, design, stylish and don't want to spend a fortune,u're in the right place....!!The staff is great, they're always there to help u,to give u tips for the city and they always have a smile on their faces..!The location is good, not in the center of the city, but the tram takes u there in 10 minutes.
The hotel is a pleasant fifteen minute tramride from the city centre, and in a pleasant, quiet area. The shower and toilets are in (frosted glass) view of the rest of the room so wouldn't suit travelling companions who aren't prepared for that. But the comfortable beds, tellys (all major BBC channels are included), music and stylish lobby make this a great base from which to explore.
CitizenM was amazing! One of the trendiest, most comfortable hotels I've stayed in. The bed was huge and so comfortable, just what one needs after a long flight. The pods with shower and toilet were very interesting and functional. the mood pad was great, you could change the temperature, lights, tv, music , all from one little device.

A very trendy and stylish place to stay in Amsterdam. Its location is really convinient, near the train station and very near from the tram that takes you to the center.
I stayed at this hotel because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor. And yes, it's a cool budget design hotel. It's very clean and modern and this is just the type of place that I wanted for my two day business stay. I didn't care that the hotel wasn't in the city center but a 20 minutes tram ride away. Don't stay here if you want to enjoy Amsterdam on leisure.
the location was ok away from the city BUT it is very close to the Nord station so any time u want u can just hop on the train and go anywhere u want.
I never write reviews - but this hotel was worth a review. I travel around the world for work and have stayed at some amazing hotels. The Citizen M was right by the tram running into the city. There is a 24-hour bar & snack offering. The staff and service is amazing. Free wi Fi -- and the design is uber-cool.
This was our first stay at citizenM and our first trip to Amsterdam. Everything about the hotel was great and exceeded our expectations! CitizenM Amsterdam City isn't in the center of tourist attractions, but it's only steps away from trams 2 and 5, which are only minutes away from any place you'll visit.
Had a great time in this hotel. Ideal to visit Amsterdam. One drawback: no parking! I recommend this hotel to anyone.
this is the best hotel i've stayed so far. the bed is very comfortable and big, the shower is great. the rooms are stylish but very functional. the atmosphere in the lounge is just great. food downstairs is a bit expensive but very nice. just LOVED it!!!
We have got back from Amsterdam today and it was absoluty brilliant- the hotel was the best and made our holiday. Before travelling i was a little worried about the location but its fine - you get to see other parts of amsterdam which we proberly wouldnt have seen if staying in the centre.
Stayed at this hotel on a recent business trip. Had a layover for a day in Amsterdam and was looking for a hotel that would be convenient to the airport since I had an early flight the next morning. Staff were pleasant and the decor was fun!
Everything I've ever been looking for in a hotel: stylish, design, convenient and not too expensive. Great chain! Looking forward to their expansion into other european cities!
My wife made this reservation for me as I needed to stay at the airport for one night. We have done this several times before while visiting family in the Netherlands. This was by far the best hotel I have stayed at yet!
Stayed on 7th floor on Friday, 16 October, 2009. We chose this hotel for the location - walking distance to the Schipol airport for our return flight home For that, it's hard to beat. Price was right and the accommodation was unique - a coloured light show while you shower.
Was flying into Amsterdam to catch a flight home the next morning. Had already seen the city, so only needed a hotel near the airport for one night before catching an early flight the next morning. CitizenM is a short walk from the terminal and you can use the airport baggage carts to get to the hotel.
Long flights to and from the US to Europe this hotel is citizenM...once you get over being so tired the cool room is a welcome...and you can buy whatever you want at the bar and take it to your room. A really cool feature is also once you get a shower and just lay down in the bed you SLEEP...amazing.
It's no fun having to spend a night at Schiphol Airport, but if you have no choice, then this is the place to go. It's clean, friendly, zany, fairly cheap, close to the terminals, and has Apple computers in the lounge, so you can check in online and print your boarding pass before going to bed. Now doesn't that make sense?
We chose this hotel because it was very near to Airport. You can go airport by walk. Although the room was smart, it has very amazing desingn. The bed was quite good, the lights in the room was very impressive. The price was good for this kind of nice hotel.
Loved the hotel!
Good hotel to enjoy a good nights rest before or after a long journey. Good concept: floorspace is expensive: let's optimize that and in return give people luxury. I've always hated those hotel where you get big room with:
*A tv-set with only 3 channels and a non-functioning remote..."Let's see...there is local french tv...BBC world and nothing and nothing and.. ah....BBC world!"
*A table with chairs... "I honestly never sat in a chair in my hotelroom in my life: usually my clothes end up on it."
I fly in and out of Schiphol many times a year on business. One can stay at the Sheridan or the Hilton and pay over twice the amount. Or, on can stay at the Mercure inside the airport, which is a very good bargain, and although the rooms are equiped with all of the basics they are not at the level of excellance that CitizenM is.
Having missed a connecting flight late in the evening, needing a room for the night, and after being quoted nearly 400 Euros for one night by the Sherton and Hilton (also within a 5 minute walk from the airport) I was a little apprehensive as I approached the red frosted glass doors of CitizenM. As I entered the uber trendy reception I also wondered what their room rate might be. Needless to say it was less than 400 Euros.
I had to train from Bonn to Amsterdam to catch my flight home - the Bonn plane was sold out. So I came in the night before my flight and tucked into the modern citizenM for the night - easy, comfortable, space-agey. Comfy bed, FREE wifi, and decent (if pricey) food in the canteen.
It was an experience not to be missed--When they say it is within walking distance of the Schipol airport they are serious. We were even able to use our luggage cart to get there. The rooms are clean and inviting. It is a long narrow room and the bed goes from wall to wall--It is a little difficult to get into it but very comfortable.
Just stayed here for a couple of nights for the Amsterdam marathon. Location is extremely close to the airport (around 400 metres), and I barely heard a single plane. The only problem with the location is that you will have to travel a while to get to the city centre. So not great as a holiday destination. But it was nice checking out and then being 5 minutes away from the airport!
I had been on my own traveling throught Italy following a wonderful stay in South Africa with friends. I had a one night layover in Amsterdam to await my plane back to the US.I must say I was most impressed with your hotel and its staff when I checked in. Katrina was a delight as she explained everything to me.
We decided to book the Citizen M for the value. Because the price was so good, we didn't expect much quite honestly. However, this hotel is great! It is right at the airport, so very convenient. Don't let this scare you, the rooms are sound proof. We couldn't hear anything outside our room (ie. airplane noise, tv's, showers, etc.). Complete silence!
It's new, it's clean, it's quiet, it's comfortable, it's close to the incheck desks, the crew is very kind, the coffee is delicious, and the price is nice. There are not many hotels that can touch all of these qualifications at the same time.
This hotel was a great find. Walking distance to the airport. The rooms are compact, clean and very interesting. We had an early flight so the location was perfect. Fun hotel. Employees were terrific. We would definitely stay at CitizenM again.
This is a great hotel, providing all necessities without overcharging for useless things. Just a few steps from the airport. Absolutely no noise from outside despite the runway and large street right outside the building. Compact but well designed rooms (loved the big bed and the shower cabin) and very nice staff.

From the check-in to check-out this was a great experience. Although at first I was concerned that the rooms might have been a little like a cruise ship, I instantly found the large bed and well thought-out unique layout of the room to be very comfortable.
