Likewise, citizenM keeps its eyes and ears open for interesting and inspiring development opportunities. Hotels are planned across Europe – in all major cities – such as London, Barcelona, Glasgow, Berlin, Stockholm, Brussels, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow, Paris, Istanbul, Warsaw, Budapest and more.
citizenM is looking for development sites at prime locations: in lively urban areas, in or well connected to city centres, business districts and international airports. These may be "greenfield" sites or outdated buildings that can be demolished. Hotels can also be constructed on top of existing structures or developed as part of a larger mixed-use development scheme.
citizenM hotels are developed using prefabricated rooms (14 sqm internal floor area) with a uniquely functional and comfortable interior. The public areas are traditionally constructed. citizenM hotels can contain from 100 to 300 rooms. Due to the efficient building layout this roughly corresponds with only 3,000 to 7,000 sqm gross floor area (GFA) respectively (average of approximately 26 sqm GFA per room). As a result of the building system the on-site construction time is limited to 6 months.
citizenM acts as developer, investor and operator of the hotels and is therefore primarily interested in freehold sites or long term ground leases. However the hotel group is also open to co-development, co-investment and lease structures with local or international partners.
