The 5 best co-working spots in London

where to work when your lap just won’t cut it

Remote working is fun, in theory. In practice? A different story. Listen, it’s hard for anyone to feel like an international jet-setter when they’re on their hands and knees in a chain coffee shop trying to find a plug socket. Let us help you out. Here are five citizenM-approved places to work in London that are just as good (or better) than a traditional co-working space. Just without the commitment.

The Barbican

Offices (even temporary ones) don’t get more impressive than The Barbican. Creatives love this unique space for its architecture, as much as its free Wi-Fi, on-site cafes on sight and regular art exhibitions. Fun fact: this Brutalist arts space is also home to the second biggest conservatory in London, with over 1500 species of tropical plants and trees. Just book your free ticket in advance.

The British Library

Need silence to get things done? Head to The British Library. It’s hard not to feel inspired when you’re surrounded by 400 miles of shelves, home to the Magna Carta… and handwritten Beatles lyrics. If you plan on coming more often, apply for a free Readers pass – you’ll get access to their Reading Rooms for three years.

Reading Room at Wellcome Collection

Curious minds will love the Reading Room at the Wellcome Collection. This peaceful library space, found in a stunning 1930s neoclassical building on Euston Road, has plenty of desks, armchair and stools, with more books than you can shake a stick at (feel free to take a look!). All spaces are wheelchair accessible and Regent’s Park is just down the street.

The Southbank Centre

This iconic space is a remote worker favourite for a reason. It has fast Wi-Fi, lets you bring in your own food and is in one of London’s best locations, Waterloo. Sit on the upper terrace for excellent people watching and beautiful views of the river. Need a break? The Centre hosts free art installations, exhibitions and workshops year-round.

citizenM London Bankside

Work meets play at our hotel in London Bankside. Set up on one of our many benches, desks and colourful Vitra couches (all close to plug sockets!) and enjoy the superfast free Wi-Fi do the rest. Need a drink? Fresh barista-brewed coffee awaits at canteenM. Then, when the day is done, you’re only a two-minute walk from the Tate Modern and a ten-minute walk from Borough Market and the Millennium Bridge.
