So, if your in anyway versed in the culinary scene in Glasgow you're going to have heard of '111 by Nico'. If you haven't, then in a nutshell, the founder, owner and head chef, Nico Simone has expressed that his restaurant is to be used as a training academy for young people who "haven't had the best start in life".
His ethos hangs proudly on the wall of the restaurant where the words "Forget their past's, break their boundaries', let them realise what can be achieved and direct them on the path to achieve it.”
His chef, Modou Diagme spent some time living rough and now he's somewhat of a local celebrity. Nico really does his bit for his fellow man and a lot of people are better off because of him. In my opinion, he's a saintly human being with a devilish talent that will tantalise your tastebuds into doing some seriously naughty things.
citizenSteven says: remember, confessions on a Sunday so you'll have a full week to overindulge in gluttonous behaviour.
For your first time, I highly recommend heading here on a Monday evening to experience the taster menu. The preview for the week ahead is amazing value for money. Five courses of pure bliss with an amuse-bouche to start. Partnered with a chilled chenin blanc, certainly amused my bouche.
The sommelier skill's of our waiter and his product knowledge was fascinating! The poor boy couldn't get away from our table. If your going to give 111 by Nico a try, I'd advise you book in advance. Especially on a Monday as people queue for cancelations, thanks to a raving review in 'The Guardian' that unearthed this little hidden gem.
