Glasgow Climbing Centre

Glasgow Climbing Centre

This award-winning Glasgow Climbing Centre offers a unique rock climbing experience. Constructed from the bones of the old Methodist Church in Ibrox, this venue is an absolute stunning setting for a climbing centre.

Originally a simple aisle-less church, a chancel and transepts were added in 1897, the external features of the church – the tower topped by a spire and the grand doorway – set  the scene as soon as you cross the threshold. Gothic and slightly eerie but this all adds to the experience. The venue houses a variety of climbing and bouldering walls up to 12m (40 feet) in height.

citizenSteven says: almost like your own little piece of heaven. They make full use of the converted church, with climbing routes stretching up into the original oak beamed rafters. They offer Bouldering, Top/Bottom Roped Climbing and Lead Climbing with routes graded from beginner to Tarzan.

They have an awesome little eatery also, the ‘Balcony Café’, offering something for climbers needing a break or for non-climbers to simply soak up the talent, literally hanging from the rafters.

The vistas alternate from climbing and then to original stained glass windows which is stunning to see as you hang 40 feet up, and then the sun bursts through manifesting a kaleidoscope of colour; almost like your own little piece of heaven.
