I'm a hardened traveller, I've seen Hotels the world over travelling for business for the last 20 years so to make me stop and say Wow, thats cool takes a lot. CitizenM did exactly that. From arriving to self check-in supervised by the ever so helpful dutch staff to stepping into my space age room to great food and brilliant coffee this was a Hotel stay to remember.
The room was straight out of a Nasa lab with space age styling, the bed sits in the window space like the best window seat ever. The shower is a 360 glass pod. The toilet is the same but frosted glass. The funky lighting is great fun. In fact Fun is at the very core of everything in this Hotel. My wife and I had a hoot. The food in the main bar is tasty with generous servings. The coffee from the bar at 7am was fantastic. Their double shot latte is to die for. The staff are friendly, full of helpful tips on the food, the facilities and how to get around Amsterdam. This is a great place for a short fun filled break.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for almost a week in June 2017. We absolutely loved the idea of a minimalist room. Yes, it's a small space, but everything you need is there. The rainforest shower was my favourite, and I loved playing with the iPad settings to change the lights.
Also, you can choose to opt out of the room cleaning service each day, and you get a 10 euro voucher than can be used at the bar. Highly recommend, the drinks are absolutely amazing! One of the days, we had to wait longer than usual for our drinks that we ordered, and to make up for that they made them for us for free! The service is outstanding. And the breakfast is delicious. You can even rent bikes for the day for free, but you have to try to get them early in the morning!
We will definitely be staying at the CitizenM again in different cities.
Stayed in this hotel for 3nights and I must say the staff are lovely and the rooms are decent. They are small and compact but have a lot of glass to not make it feel to closed in. The shower and toilet situation was interesting and very European.
The hotel also provided TV,WiFi and films (including some XXX films) all free. The thing that bothered me was they didn't have free tea or coffee in the rooms and charged a lot for any food. Coffee was 3.50-4.00 euros.
On the whole it was a nice hotel... wouldn't rush to book another stay unless it was on a goof deal.
So there’s no doubt that the CitizenM hotels are packed with style, even if it’s not to everyone’s taste. This particular venue is no different.
Located a little bit outside of Central Amsterdam the location proved to still be very handy with a fast metro service nearby taking you in to the city centre in around 12 minutes.
On arriving at the hotel at 11:30pm on a Friday night my mate and I were greeted by the familiar sight of CitizenM branding and decor and a packed bar full of Friday night after-work drinkers from the nearby offices in this commercial district.
Alex, a relative new-starter at the hotel hails from Leeds (by way of Glasgow for the last 8 years) and greeted us with all the charm of an adopted Glaswegian; a really brilliant start to our stay.
The rooms are extraordinarily kitted out with “smart” everything: lights, blinds, tv, curtains - you name it.
I’m personally not a huge fan of shower pods and WC pods but CitizenM have done these well.
The bed was enormous and unbelievably comfortable. As it was just me in the room, it was perfect. I’m not sure how ideal it would be for a couple though as it is walled in on 3 sides.
Throughout my 2 night stay, all of the staff at the hotel were attentive, friendly and relaxed. The cleaners did a great job and it really was a pleasure staying there.
I’d recommend it without any hesitation at all.
Great location being by the airport, very clean and excellent service from the staff. The rooms are pretty unique, instead of having a separate toilet you bring some glass doors around, the same for the shower.
It was pricey but by the airport is fine. Would have been 5 stars if the rooms were a little bigger.
The hotel room is beautifully designed with modern furnishings and high-tech iPad room controls. The bed is so comfy and I had a great sleep. The water is hot and powerful and just what I needed after a long haul flight.
The staff on site was friendly and very cheerful, made me feel immediately at home.
The neighborhood is a bit far from central, but there is a tram stop right outside to take you wherever you need to go.
I enjoy it more because it's peaceful and not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the central areas
I think hotel is very innovative :) So easily electronic check in and check out, take very little time. Hotel has good location, near to Schipol airport. We walked there. Nice smart rooms , clean. Have fun...
Having never stayed here before, I was anxious about style of room and how it would impact my stay. However, I could not have been more wrong!
Check in was easy. It is all done via Self-Check in screens however there are staff available should you need assistance.
The rooms are quirky, with a pod for the toilet and pod for the shower.
If sharing the room, make sure you know the other person pretty well and privacy does not exist here!
The bed was amazing. Huge and comfortable and I slept really well.
The room is controlled by an Ipad - you can choose lighting to suit your mood, operate the blinds and the curtains and also the TV. There are lots of new movies to choose from which are free of charge.
The room was cleaned daily and was spotless. You have the option of opting-out of a room clean, with the money saved going to the CitizenM charity.
The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for you. We used the downstairs bar quite often - coffees in the morning to kickstart our day and a night cap at the end of a long day of being tourists! The lounge area is very welcoming with plenty of seating for all. The purpose of our visit was for my brothers 21st birthday. In his room, the staff had organised balloons, a card and a complimentary cocktail which was a really nice touch.
There is a room on the first where you can iron your shirts etc. This is free of charge and open 24/7.
There is a small safe in the room which is ideal for storing passports, currency etc.
There is also a hairdryer, complimentary shampoo, soap and bottled water which was replenished daily.
Check out was very simple - again using the self-service terminals. The hotel also stored our luggage for us for the day as we were on a late flight back to the UK.
The hotel is very close to the number 5 tramlink which takes you directly into Dam. It is also within walking distance of the Amsterdam Zuid train station. You can get a direct train from Schiphol airport to here for 3.80euros.
I am sad that I judged this hotel from its looks, but I can honestly say it was a great experience and I would not hesitate in coming back again. Thanks CitizenM.
