The checkin is great and quick - a taste of using the most up to date technology. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Unusual check-in area but this became apparent later. The check-in area expands to a bar /lounge and eating area.

This serves to replace the area usually used for a lounge/work desk in most hotel rooms. As a result the rooms are more like 'pods' - very small even by New York standards. The rooms are cleverly designed with lots of tech effects and links to the lighting/TV etc. The bathroom is super small. I don't think it would suit a large traveller. Check-out was very quick and easy. Overall a very different experience as the rooms are functional and you can use the general public areas for recreational times. Personally I prefer the larger more traditional rooms.

It's sort of like "glamping". Tight quarters but very clean and modern.
Had a room right by the elevator so I was concerned about noise but it wasn't bad at all. Staff was friendly. Great location.

Perfect room for 1. Tight squeeze for 2.

“great hotel in the theatre area”

We love the Citizen M group. Very modern, clean design. Rooms are efficiently layed out. Huge bed, with a small desk and small bathroom with shower. Everything is new and clean! We are a close couple so the size was OK, but it is a small room.

The lobby serves as a great living space to spread out with computer or have a cup of coffee. So the size of the room is not such a problem. Very quiet room, too.

“Great Stay at a Unique Hotel”

I booked the citizenM for one night as part of my teenage daughter's birthday trip to see Wicked because I knew she would enjoy this unique hotel. As a middle-aged, middle-class suburban type, I'm certainly unlike the hotel's much cooler, younger and more attractive demographic, but the staff and overall vibe were nothing but warm and welcoming.

There's not much to add to other reviewers' accolades about the cleanliness, lobby, decor, artwork, amenities, food, etc., etc., etc. Just wonderful!

Discounted parking on 49th St. was $35 for 24 hours with ticket validated by the hotel - very reasonable - and the entrance to the Gershwin Theater was almost directly across the street from the hotel - very convenient.

I must note that this was the best I've ever slept on the first night at any hotel, bar none (I always wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep). The bed was large, snug, and supremely comfortable, and there was little to no noise from the street or hallway.

Only one small word of caution regarding the bathroom, which is not actually a separate room but a futuristic, frosted glass-encased "pod". Bathroom sounds will be heard by your roommate, so if you're not comfortable with this, the citizenM might not be the hotel for you.

“Make sure you get the room you paid for!!”

Make sure you get the room you paid for... We paid for a high floor and we were booked on the 5th floor... Since when is the 5th floor considered a high floor? .. But we had an issue the night of Check in as my wife's name could not be found (she was checking in before me) she has to wait 15mins.

Even though I called 30mins before to inform the hotel of her arrival.. After that she had no energy to argue the room floor... Once I arrived they had changed the reservation under her name, which made me have to wait also as they couldn't find me. It was a mess and not approciated. For the inconvenience we were given complimentary breakfast the next day which was nice as it was delicious. Staff is friendly, lobby is quiet and very relaxing.

All in all its not a horrible hotel, I would probably stay again, but only if they get things right next time..

“Best place to stay”

Always happy to find a CitizenM in different parts of the world. We are used to their hotel in Amsterdam and wondered if the USA would have watered the charm down. Not at all. It was just the same with friendly staff from all over the world.

we felt at home!

“Top Location and Modern Hotel”

This hotel is positioned right off Times Square but away from the busy thoroughfare. It's right next to 50th Street Subway which gives you easy access to much of the city and is within walk-able distance to great shopping, central park and the Rockefeller Center.

There is a 'pharmacy on each corner of the street which sells snacks and drinks which are open 24/4. Plenty of places to get coffee's and lunch and right next to Broadway theaters.

Very easy check in and out and there are three lifts so always one available to take you up to your room.

The room itself is small but perfectly formed with two wardrobe spaces and a big drawer under the bed for storing your luggage. There is also a safe in the room and a fridge you can use to store snacks and water (or beer :))

The bed is pushed right up to the window and there is also a chair and stool to sit on. An iPad controls the temperature, curtains, blackout blinds, tv, and lights. The windows are also very soundproof so no street noise although you do hear people out in the hallway (not a problem when we were there though).

The rooms were scrupulously clean and were cleaned every day. There was also a little vanity kit provided with shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and other little bits and bobs. They also provide a converter plug and the sockets have USB chargers on them anyway. Although we did find that the plugs were a bit ropey on charging (maybe because of the change in wattage on our devices).

We asked for a high up room on the north side so we had a good city view.

There was a rooftop bar, great for post sightseeing drinks, and a little smoking section in the corner of the terrace. Prices were reasonable for NYC, about $22 for a small beer and a cocktail.

We didn't use the 'Canteen' and opted for eating breakfast out and about so cannot comment of the food quality. But the coffee from the bar downstairs is nice.

All in all a great little hotel, super comfy beds and friendly staff. Would definitely go back!

I should mention though that I booked this under an 'early-bird' non-refundable rate and a week later the price dropped dramatically. CitizenM at NYC were very helpful in adjusting my rate but it was made clear that it was a one-off courtesy so make sure you check for promos or even sign up to their newsletter a few weeks before you decide to book so you get the best offers.
