Three new hotels are not enough for Robin Chadha, citizenM’s chief marketing officer, who wants us to be the chain of choice for the modern-day traveller. “In order to reflect our global audience,” he explains, “we must have a global footprint too.”

Just when you think things couldn’t get any more exciting at citizenM, we go and raise the bar. Which is how it should be – we’re not going to become the go-to hotel for the modern-day traveller by sitting on our backsides, are we?

In 2017, we opened new hotels in Paris Gare de Lyon, Paris La Défense and Taipei. As soon as we swept up the confetti after the launch parties, we said: ‘ok, where to next, citizenM?’ We scooped up some cool locations, staying true to our goal of bringing great rates and design in stunning locations to global citizens everywhere. From New York to Kuala Lumpur, here’s where we are going over the next few years.

citizenM New York Bowery: We are delighted to announce our newest New York home is open for bookings! With East Village to the north, Canal Street and Chinatown in the south, the Lower East Side on the east, and Nolita out west, our new location on the Bowery is intriguing, diverse, and guaranteed to pack maximum pleasure and leisure into every guest’s itinerary. Start planning your autumn in New York, we will be welcoming guests from September 2018.

citizenM Kuala Lumpur: Following the opening of citizenM Taipei, we’re continuing our Asian adventure with a new opening in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s fashion and entertainment district. Bukit Bintang is also a stone’s throw from some of the city’s most stunning temples and buzzing markets – the perfect spot for indulging your inner culture vulture after a morning of retail therapy. The opening is scheduled for the latter part of 2018. Ambitious? Maybe. Exciting? Definitely!

citizenM Shanghai Hongqiao: Our Asian adventure continues with the new Shanghai location, scheduled to open in late 2018. The hotel will be just minutes from Hongqiao Airport and high-speed train connection. Ideally placed next to the new MixC shopping mall in the Minhang district, we expect it to be equally popular with explorers and business travellers.

citizenM Los Angeles: The global citizen needs their LA base camp, so we’ve provided the goods. At 14 stories tall, with bar and outdoor terrace on the 13th, our La La Land hotel, just off Hollywood Boulevard, will give guests a perfect view of the iconic Capitol Records Building.

citizenM Seattle South Lake Union: ‘SLU’, as it’s fondly known, is home to the head offices of cool kids like Starbucks and Amazon. From 2019, this lakeside haven will be a temporary home to our global citizens too, as an ideal fit for the live/work/play culture of the downtown core.

citizenM Copenhagen Rådhuspladsen: Located on Copenhagen’s Rådhuspladsen, or Town Hall Square, our first Nordic hotel is within walking distance of Copenhagen Central Station, Tivoli Gardens, and the main shopping streets. Featuring a top-floor living-room lobby overlooking the historic city centre, citizenM’s base in Denmark’s capital will tick all the boxes.

citizenM Geneva Centre: Geneva is as much a global business hub as it is a nature lover’s paradise. Conveniently-located on the main retail street and adjacent to the old town, our first Swiss hotel will also be within walking distance of Lake Geneva

citizenM Boston North Station:  Adjacent to the TD Garden stadium and on the banks of the Charles River, citizenM Boston will knock your (baseball) socks off. Hop across the river to explore Harvard University, then kick back with a coffee in our living-room lobby in the clouds.

citizenM San Francisco Union Square: Hop on a cable car to our East Coast hub at the historic Union Square. It’s one of the largest collections of department stores, art galleries and boutiques in the United States, and has a thriving theatre scene to boot! You’ll hardly have time to lay your head on our famous pillows.

citizenM Washington Capitol: If it’s good enough for the President... citizenM Washington will be close to the famous National Mall and L’Enfant Plaza Metro in downtown DC. The hotel will offer societyM creative meeting spaces and a cloudM rooftop bar, perfect for “waving” at the man himself.

citizenM Zurich City Centre: If there’s one place you should be in Zurich, it’s Paradeplatz, the starting point for… pretty much everything. It’s close to shopping, global head offices of UBS and Credit Suisse, Lake Zurich, and enough tram lines to carry you anywhere in the city. We can’t wait to stay there, if we may say so ourselves.

citizenM Miami Brickell: We love gorgeous water views as much as the next person, so as soon as we heard there’s a perfect spot for us over at Biscayne Bay, we jumped at the chance. As the city’s financial centre, Brickell is glittering, buzzing and happening. In other words, exactly where citizenM should be.

Our plans may look ambitious, but we are not stopping. We are constantly pursuing opportunities in every corner of the globe. But no matter where we go, we will stay true to our ‘affordable luxury for the people’ philosophy, bringing great rates, big-city locations and amazing design to you, the modern mobile citizen. “In a saturated travel industry, citizenM offers something unique,” says Chadha. Wait and see where we go next.

PS. Here's why our hotels are so much more than just places to sleep...
