Hillhead Book Club

Hillhead Book Club

A former cinema is today one of the most inspiring and original places in Glasgow – it functions as a living room, a bar, a sports club and occasionally even a bazar.

Hillhead Book Club, in the shabby chic West End of Glasgow, is the place where the hipped Glaswegian hang out. They serve lunch and dinner and even brunch on weekends. I especially appreciate the light attitude they have when it come to their food. Veggies are “stuff from the allotment, the window box and next door’s greenhouse” and their burgers are “bread on top, bread underneath and stuff in between”.

citizenLeonie says: imagine a 1920s cinema with an extremely high ceiling with galleries on both sides. At night cocktails are served in the most peculiar ways, in a gramophone for example, and a DJ heats up the place that is just beautiful to look at. Imagine a 1920s cinema with an extremely high ceiling with galleries on both sides. Up there you can compete in ping pong tournaments, play retro videogames and join an occasional sewing club. From time to time on Sundays there is a vintage fair in and around the book club – an ideal occasion to grab a newspaper, enjoy Sunday brunch and sight the local vintage scene.
